Job Description : 24hr Live-in-Carers

Responsilbe To : Care Coordinator / Registered Manager

Rate of Pay : TBA


We are looking for  individuals who are  humane and empathetic to the vulnerable people we serve.   • Committed to completing Induction Course and if not already qualified, undertake training in NVQ Health and Social Care following completion of probationary period
  • Attend ongoing training and staff development meetings/workshops as required
  • Attend regular 6 month supervisory meetings and annual appraisals as requested
  • Able to communicate clearly in English both spoken and written
  • Ability to work flexible hours and at times, on short notice


  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) and/or relevant life experience
  • A driver with own car and able to call at client’s homes on time
  • Experience of working within the care sector/life experience 


  • To adopt and foster the company principles, beliefs and values of NHP and in carrying out your tasks with service users, to appreciate that you are the face and voice of NHP to the client.
  • To follow and implement service users` care plans in accordance with needs assessment on file
  • To abide by NHP`s staff Code of Conduct, Policies and Procedures as detailed in the Staff handbook.
  • To provide personal, practical care and support services for people with a wide range of illnesses and disabilities.
  • To assist service users who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing and the toilet.
  • To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • To help care for service users who are dying.
  • To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service users through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations, escorting to day centres, GP and hospital visits, Dentists, Opticians, Chiropodist, organising and receiving visitors on behalf of service user, i.e., inviting service user’s friends for tea etc.
  • To make and change beds, tidy rooms, do light cleaning and empty commodes. Keep own room clean and tidy and change sheets on hand-over days ready for next care worker.
  • To launder service users’ clothing.
  • To set tables and trays; serve meals; feed service users who need help; prepare light meals and wash up; tidy and clear the dining area.
  • To answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone and greet visitors.
  • To read and write reports, and take part in staff and service users' meetings and in training activities as directed.
  • To collect pensions, pay bills and offer other practical support.
  • To conform to all policies, procedures and guidelines laid down by NHP in respect of carrying out these care duties and in other administrative aspects of the business, as relevant.
  • To be available to work as and when agreed with NHP giving as much notice as possible of any cancellation and provide a valid reason for doing so.
  • To carry out accurately, and in a competent manner, instructions from Managers and Supervisors and adhere to the Care Plans of individual service users.
  • To actively talk to and listen to Service Users, allowing for their personal choice in their own home.
  • To timely deliver your Timesheets to NHP’s offices for processing
  • To maintain accurate, concise, up-to-date and timely records of service user’s care, diary sheets and time sheets.
  • To return all relevant paperwork to the office where deemed necessary by the company.
  • To document each visit in the Daily Log detailing tasks undertaken, any changes which have occurred and other relevant information. To write clearly, with accompanying dates and signature.
  • To be considerate in respect of written comments made in the Daily Log so as not to unduly or unintentionally offend or upset the service user, as they are entitled to read it.
  • To work only within NHP’s regulations regarding the handling of client finances, ensuring accurate documentation and receipting of any transactions.
  • To be familiar with NHP`s Health and Safety Policy and to promote safe working practices.
  • To report and record any accident or incident which may occur – no matter how minor, whether service user or carer.
  • To report back to the Manager or Supervisor on any aspect of service user’s care which is felt warrants investigation or urgent action.
  • To participate as directed by the Manager or Supervisors, in Induction and Foundation training and regular in-service training programmes.
  • To report immediately to Management any noticeable changes in health, behaviour or circumstances of service users – maintaining the service user’s rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • To participate in reviews of service users’ Care Plans as required.
  • To make yourself available on a regular basis at an agreed, appointed time to assess and review your personal and professional progress which will be recorded on your personnel file which is available for inspection.
  • To be aware of, and comply with, the tasks and activities which must NOT be undertaken as part of care duties, as detailed in NHP’s Policy on prohibited duties (Limits of Responsibility).
  • To advise supervisors and/or the Manager of any perceived problems or difficulties experienced with the service provided to service users
